Engineering Engineering competence lies at the heart of efficient and economic project development. The Engineering Department at Ben Dyer Associates is fully staffed and equipped to provide design and construction observation of a broad range of civil engineering projects, including flood control, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, stormwater management, water distribution systems, sewage collection systems, street and highway systems, sediment and erosion control, surface mining, and environmental analysis. Engineering evaluations made by Ben Dyer Associates provide basic data on the character of each project and the development constraints of the site within a given zoning classification. Feasibility and design studies and construction plans are undertaken for private developers, as well as for Federal, State, County, and Municipal Governments. One major aspect of the services offered by Ben Dyer Associates is the observation of construction of storm drainage, sewer and water service installations. The firm functions as consultant to private builders and municipal authorities. The firm also serves as consultant in the design and construction of water and sewer facilities for jurisdictions beyond the limits of available public utilities. The State of Maryland implemented its Erosion and Sediment Control Law in 1972 . Ben Dyer Associates has been actively involved in the preparation of sediment control plans using State approved procedures and innovative design techniques since the beginning. These plans have been implemented at large scale industrial and commercial developments, surface mines, and residential subdivision projects. Plans have also been designed and implemented for restoration projects where major erosion problems have existed. Ben Dyer Associates continues to be a leader in the area of stormwater management. The Maryland Stormwater Management Law, enacted in 1983, has provided unique and challenging opportunities for design of various stormwater management facilities. These include ponds, infiltration facilities, oil/grit separators, sand filters, and forest preservation design plans. Another area of environmental concerns is wetlands. Ben Dyer Associates is involved in the wetland permitting process at both the federal and state level. Our services include the delineation of wetlands, field locating wetlands by surveying or aerial photography, then evaluating the wetlands for their importance and significance. From this information, our staff of engineers and planners can prepare plans that work harmoniously with the wetlands or, if necessary, design plans for mitigating and re-establishing the wetlands in other areas. |

Surveying Ben Dyer Associates is equipped with modern surveying devices supported by electronic computing equipment. Our thoroughly trained survey crews provide the precise and accurate field information required to determine property boundaries, locate utility and other easements, stake building locations and verify topographic features. The use of multiple crews, all equipped with portable two-way radio equipment, assures maximum efficiency and promptness in completion of field work. Topographic mapping by photogrammetric or field survey processes (or a combination of both) provides pinpoint accuracy in location of rock out-croppings, water courses, springs, marshy areas, and other features - factors which must be known in the final determination of the development potential of a site. Surveying services provided by Ben Dyer Associates include complete stake-out for all phases of construction and final location surveys. |

Land Planning - Landscape Architecture Engineering data and supporting studies on existing and proposed land uses, pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and public facility requirements are the raw materials used by the land design team of planners and landscape architects of Ben Dyer Associates. The work of the Survey, Engineering, and Planning Departments is brought together in an alliance of professional services. In the creation of a land design plan, whether for a single property or a complex subdivision community providing a variety of residential, commercial, and public uses, the landscape architect strives to achieve order and economy within bounds of good land use. The increasing awareness on the part of Federal, State, and local government agencies of the need for revitalization of economically depressed areas has brought about a need for planning the creative utilization of existing community resources to broaden and stabilize the economic base and create new job opportunities. Ben Dyer Associates has served as consultant to private firms and government agencies in implementing this concept. All elements of design factors are carefully analyzed to avoid costly construction procedures in carrying out the design concept. |
