Accounting Clerk

A well-established Civil Engineering, Land Planning and Surveying firm located in Mitchellville, MD (Prince George’s County) is searching for an Accounting Clerk to join their accounting team. This is an in-office/non-remote role. In this role, you will be responsible for processing invoices, providing data for reports and forecasting, interact with clients, assist to resolve any and all payment discrepancies, and other duties as assigned.  This role requires strong communication and customer service skills, a willingness to work in a collaborative environment, and strong attention to detail. The Accounting Clerk reports directly to the Controller.


  • Prepares timely/accurate invoices to customers working with management in accordance with company policy, government regulations, and the requirements of the contract
  • Backup for Accounts Payable Specialist as needed
  • Receive, record and post payments (cash, check, credit card and ACH transactions) to customer accounts and correctly apply them to open invoices, in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Maintain and update customer records in Deltek Vision
  • Maintain client and customer billing and account information in an organized manner.
  • Perform data entry during the billing process to generate invoices using Deltek Vision
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly invoices for FFP, T&M and Cost Reimbursable contracts through Deltek Vision
  • Assist the Controller with various ad-hoc activities and reporting, as required
  • Support supervisory and executive staff by performing any assigned accounting and clerical tasks
  • Assist with any tasks conducted within the accounting department, or any tasks that require accounting personnel to take part
  • Key in or type up any documents or items that the accounting department is responsible for, including checks and invoices, work orders, as well as vouchers, retainers, accounting statements, and other reports and records
  • Match work orders to invoices
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • 3+ Years Billing and Accounting experience with accounting functions
  • High school or equivalent is required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred
  • Knowledge of Deltek/Vision software
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with billing functions and cash applications. Must have worked in a customer support capacity and comfortable working directly with customers and staff regarding billing, collections and cash applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic with an ability to multi-task
  • Ability to verify mathematical accuracy of accounting documents
  • Well organized, motivated and ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time and workload
  • Must be focused on task and be able to meet daily and/or week goals and targets
  • Ability to sort/file accounting documentation
  • Prior construction industry/civil engineering accounting experience a plus
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
